Joel fell on his face huh... hmmm... tell me more. I ain't 100% sure i buy that story. From what i know, Joel can read quite well (since he played a sight-reading instrument till he was 16) and his playing is bad-ass. Hmmm... as i said, i am curious to hear more about that.

Just got an e-mail back from Joel. Nice guy. Says he's never played with Manhattan Transfer nor has he auditioned for them, so he's not sure what Flarob is referring to.

Would love to see this gig. I'll have to check into when they might be around the L.A. area.

Moose?? Isn't Wigan that place with the beautiful hyna's, the palm trees and the tropical weather?? Oh wait!! That's Wakiki!!

I never said Joel played with Manhattan Transfer. I said, he played in a version of Manhattan Vibes. It's not bogus, I heard it from Christos himself. They're still looking for someone to take over when Hass is on the road. I love Joel's playing in some situations.

After thinking about it, I have to re post? What's the problem with saying someone didn't cover a gig well enough to get it?
Joel's a great drummer, so is Keith. I saw Keith subbing in Manhattan Vibes at the Zinc Bar, and they were playing All The Things You Are, a fast 7. Keith couldn't find the downbeat for an entire chorus. I saw it. He's still an amazing drummer. Not every gig is for every drummer. I don't see the problem in making these people human. I saw Hass sub in Lonnie Plaxico's band for the first time, reading tunes in 21/16 where he was lost almost the whole night! When music is hard, even the some great players fall. I've seen Brecker fall on his face on some gigs. But, they always recover. I don't see why it should turn into a big deal. We're talking drums, and great drummers. They're human.

That doesn't sound like something Christos would say(about Joel)-it sounds like your interpretation- and a harsh one at that. He probably wouldn't appreciate you paraphrasing him in a public forum like this...esp. about a name drummer. He's in the position to try to make connections, not sever them.

How i see it, this is kinda like the telephone game played back in grade school. Things can go from, "yeah, he struggled picking up the feel on some tunes" to, "He totally sucked" in a matter of a few people's re-telling of it.
